A definition
An AI lead generation agent does the first conversation a salesperson would have with a website visitor. It answers questions, asks its own, collects contact details and takes the next step, such as booking a meeting. The name describes the result, a lead, and not the technology.
How it differs from a chatbot
A traditional chatbot follows a script. Someone draws a flow of buttons and replies, and the visitor walks through it. Anything outside the flow gets "Sorry, I didn't understand that".
An AI agent differs in two ways:
- It answers from your content. It reads your pages and documents and writes an answer to the question that was asked. A good one links to the page it used and says when it cannot find an answer.
- It takes actions. It can save a lead, fill in a form on the visitor's behalf, book a slot on your calendar or call one of your own systems.
